Indonesia is experiencing a major acceleration in the digital transformation of its telecommunications sector, driven by strategic investments in artificial intelligence (AI), cloud-native infrastructure, and advanced 5G technology. Significant opportunities are available for companies specializing in telecommunications, AI, and Edge Computing. Several areas of collaboration are possible, particularly in Cloud Native management (virtualization), network performance tools, protection of new cloud architectures, and 5G services. Indonesia confirms its ambition to become a regional leader in connectivity and advanced digital services.
Recent agreements between Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison – Nokia – Nvidia and Telkomsel – Ericsson illustrate this drive for modernization and innovation.
Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, in partnership with Nokia and Nvidia, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate AI into its radio access network (AI-RAN). This project aims to transform the 5G network into a multifunctional computing infrastructure optimized by AI, enabling improved network performance, preparation for the transition to 6G, and the development of new AI applications for businesses and consumers. A 5G AI-RAN laboratory will be launched in 2025 to test and validate these solutions before a gradual commercial rollout through 2026.
Thus, Indosat became the first global operator to implement this technology. At the same time, Telkomsel and Ericsson have formalized a strategic collaboration to implement Far Edge Core solutions and strengthen talent development in advanced 5G technologies. This initiative includes:
- Exploring and deploying cloud-native infrastructure for better network flexibility and scalability;
- Developing Edge Computing for enterprise use cases (industry, healthcare, transportation);
- Transitioning to a 5G Standalone (SA) core network with Network Slicing, enabling highly customized and secure connectivity;
- Training programs for local talent to support the country’s technological evolution.
These strategic transformations offer major opportunities to companies specialized in telecommunications, AI, and Edge Computing. Various collaboration avenues are possible, especially in Cloud Native management (virtualization), network performance tools, protection of new cloud architectures, and 5G services.
With these ambitious initiatives, Indonesia confirms its determination to become a regional leader in connectivity and advanced digital services. Companies have a key role to play in this transition by providing their technological building blocks to support this transformation.
